Hospital Back-Up (HBU) is a program within Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program) that supports qualified skilled nursing facilities in providing hospital level care to clients who are ventilator dependent, have complex wounds, or have medically complex needs.

CMAs help with assessments for the hospital back-up program.

To qualify:

  1. Meet at least one of the three main categories of support needs 1) Complex Wound Care 2) Ventilator Dependency and/or 3) Medically complex care. 
  2. Meet the functional and level of care requirements which are determined through a designated assessment process.
  3. Meet financial determination requirements as outlined in the Colorado Code of Regulations and as determined by your local Department of Human Services.
