May 5, 2022 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeThe Impacts of \”Super Hearing\” and How it can Impact Academic Performance, Social Relationships, Self-Esteem, and Overall Well-Being – In-person & on Zoom
We are proud to have Dr. Megan Locke from the Able Kids Foundation. She will focus on the identification, diagnosis, and management of central auditory processing disorder (CAPD). Individuals with CAPD have excellent hearing, but are unable to efficiently understand speech and concentrate when placed in environments with even minimal noises. Central auditory processing disorder often occurs along with other disorders such as autism, ADD/ADHD, sensory integration dysfunction, learning disabilities, speech and language deficits, visual processing difficulties, traumatic brain injury, or other neurological conditions. CAPD can also occur in gifted students and adults. This presentation will discuss how to identify at-risk individuals, the impacts of CAPD, what to expect during the evaluation process, and management strategies to help individuals with CAPD have more control over their auditory environment and perform to their full potential.
