πŸ’š – Sensory Friendly The Sound of Music Show

January 22, 2023

About Sensory-Friendly Performances

  • Sensory-friendly performances are designed to create a welcoming and comfortable arts experience for people with autism, sensory sensitivities, or other social, learning, or cognitive disabilities.

Modifications often include:

  • Lower sound levels, especially for startling or loud sounds
  • Lights remain on at a low level in the theater during the performance
  • A reduction of strobe lighting and lighting focused on the audience
  • Guests are free to talk and leave their seats during the performance as needed
  • Guests are encouraged to wave their hands rather than clap

The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical. Featuring a trove of cherished songs, including β€œClimb Ev’ry Mountain,” β€œMy Favorite Things,” β€œDo Re Mi,” β€œSixteen Going on Seventeen” and the title number, The Sound of Music won the hearts of audiences worldwide, earning five Tony Awards and five Oscars. The inspirational story, based on the memoir of Maria Augusta Trapp, follows an ebullient postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of the imperious Captain von Trapp, bringing music and joy to the household. But as the forces of Nazism take hold of Austria, Maria and the entire von Trapp family must make a moral decision.
