We can probably all agree that 2020 has been a doozy. From virtual learning to job loss to loneliness, this year has brought unexpected consequences. However tough the situation and circumstances, we remain committed to supporting our families the best way we can.
One of our families, the Tinkers, has had an especially tough year. In May, Lauren Tinker lost her husband unexpectedly. Despite her personal tragedy, she continued to prioritize care for her son, Sullivan, who receives services through our Early Intervention Program. She continued meeting with her coordinators virtually to receive advice and support for her son Sullivan so that he could continue to progress.
Lauren quickly reached out to DP after Sullivan was born to find out what services could help him develop. Since then, in less than 20 months, Sullivan has grown and progressed so much that his mother caught him drinking from a sippy cup on his own—a major milestone!
“We had tried at least 10 different types of bottles. One night, before bedtime, he just went for it,” Lauren wrote in an email, “I sent the video to our amazing [Occupational Therapy] provider and we had a mini celebration!”
The relationship between the Tinker family and their coordinators grew and her coordinators supported her through the hardest time, as her husband passed.
In order to help with Lauren’s new financial reality, her coordinators requested financial support for orthotic, respite, and other living expenses like groceries and utilities through Developmental Pathways. We feel honored not only to partner with Lauren in her son’s development but also in navigating the ups and downs of life.
Thanks, Lauren, for inviting us into your life and for sharing your story.
